There are
still large numbers of Japanese import vehicles arriving each week
and, although the best value for money, buying one with a faulty
automatic transmission can be a costly exercise. ... ... It is
impossible to be 100% sure of the condition of an automatic
transmission, however the two main points to look at are:
|
1) Remove the transmission fluid
dipstick. Check the condition of the fluid. It should be
clear and red although in some cases a yellow dye is used, Also make
sure the fluid does not have a burnt smell to it. ... 2)
Check that the transmission is operating correctly. If you
are unsure about the operation or condition of your transmission,
Eastern Automatics Limited are happy to carry out a transmission
check free of charge. ... If you already own an imported
vehicle and the transmission fluid appears dirty or discoloured, it
is necessary to not only service the transmission, but to completely
flush out the old fluid (See Q+A for an explanation
of transmission flushing). A standard service does not allow for
removal of all the fluid. Once a fluid flush has been carried out,
it should only be necessary to perform a standard transmission
service every 12 months or
20,000km. | |
